Happy Holidays to all Residents of the Silver Strand and Wishing Everyone Good Health and Happiness in 2011

New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Marina del Rey
The countdown will begin at 11:59pm on Friday, December 31 and there will be the usual spectacular display lasting until 12:05am welcoming in the New Year. One of the great things about living in the Silver Strand is not having to drive to enjoy the festivities. All you have to do is go up to your roof deck.
Good News on Roma Court
The new owner of the unfinished home on Roma at Ketch Court has begun work in earnest on redoing what has been a long-standing eyesore. Following a major deconstruction of the original framing, it looks as if he’s virtually starting from scratch and lowering the height. A worker at the site says they hope to finish the home by next September.
The Silver Strand Book Club
The Silver Strand Book Club was organized ten years ago by Myra Amorosi and Marilee Karlsen and is still going strong. Members held a holiday luncheon at the Shutters on the Beach hotel in Santa Monica on December 13. From left to right are: Marilee Karlsen, Beverly Pazak, Ruth Rutkin, Myra Amorosi, Rena Shultz, Harryot Best, Nora Nicosia and Carol Friedenberg. Among the books the group discussed this year were The Zookeepers Wife: A War Story by Diane Ackerman, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahari, The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean and The Help, by Kathryn Stockett.
In the 1990s, many Silver Strand homeowners formed small groups centering on mutual interests including film, art, natural history and children’s activities. Board member, Nora Nicosia is looking forward to reviving this most enjoyable aspect of neighborliness. Your Block Captains will be getting in touch with you in early 2011 in hopes of getting your suggestions about groups which might interest you.
Just in case you haven’t noticed, as of December 22, we have received one third of our annual rainfall in less than a week. Noah’s Ark is docked at the end of Tahiti Way in preparation for immediate evacuation if necessary.
Seriously, we wish all of you a sunny New Year and let your roof be free of leaks.
