Clarissa Cervantes and Marilee Karlsen have arranged for a guided tour of this exciting exhibition for the Silver Strand Art group
About the show (from the Hammer Museum Press Release): The first Los Angeles biennial, Made in L.A. 2012, organized by the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LAXART, will be presented at the Hammer, LAXART, and the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. The exhibition will feature works by 60 artists from the L.A. region, with an emphasis on emerging and under-recognized artists, and will debut new installations, videos, films, sculptures, performances, and paintings produced for the biennial. This exhibition will offer a snapshot of the current trends and practices coming out of Los Angeles, one of the most active and energetic art communities worldwide.
Your Vote Matters to a Young Artist: All artist participants received an honorarium for participating, but even more exciting, a jury of professionals has narrowed candidates for the $100,000 Mohn Award down to five. The winner will be determined by the vote of visitors to the show! Young and under-recognized artists still have a very tough time entering the very competitive art world. Imagine what this prize will mean to the lucky winner.
Editor’s Note: Under the leadership of Director, Ann Philbin, the Hammer Museum has achieved a world-wide reputation for promoting avant-garde and under-recognized art and producing important exhibitions in these areas. Support it by becoming a member.
