Power Outage January 1, 2013

Fred Karlsen, President of SSMHOA, sent a strongly worded email to Victoria Cross of the DWP regarding the most recent power outage.  It  began at around 7:30pm on January 1, 2013 with a brown out  and went into a complete black out at around 9:30pm. The power remained out until around 5am. Fred asked the DWP to send a senior representative to the next regular board meeting on January 14 to explain what steps are being taken to correct the power outages which continue to plague the Silver Strand. The Silver Strand News called the DWP around 9pm, after we arrived home and found we couldn’t open our garage door. After a 20-minute wait (!) on the phone, the DWP rep said that they had just dispatched a crew to repair same. This was an hour and half after the trouble began. Some residents report that when they called the DWP about the outage and only got a recorded message. To reach a “live representative,” you need to call 1-800-821-5279. Please make a note of the number and call in as soon as you know an outage is underway. The more people call in, the more the DWP pays attention and the sooner they dispatch a repair crew.
