Homeowner Maritza Rodriguez is hosting a “Meet and Greet” for Mike Bonin on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Mike is running for a Los Angeles City Council Seat in the 11th District (the Silver Strand’s Council District) in the upcoming Primary Election on Tuesday, March 5. This is not a fundraiser, but rather an opportunity for Silver Strand residents to meet Mike. As we have reported previously, Bill Rosendahl’s seat will become vacant because he has decided not to run for a third term in order to devote himself to his recovery from cancer. Mike has been Bill’s Chief Deputy since 2o05 and has worked closely with him on matters important to Silver Strand residents including the replacement of the old fence on the Ballona Lagoon fence, getting the LADWP to address the problem of power outages and speaking up against the County’s overly aggressive development along Via Marina. Mike and Bill, along with Mark Antonio Grant, have made an effort to be “hands on” representatives by attending local events and speaking at homeowner association meetings.
Mike has worked in the 11th District since 1996 with Congresswoman Jane Harman and former City Councilmember Ruth Galanter. He is Bill’s hand chosen successor and has received his endorsement, along with that of Councilmen Zev Yaroslavsky, Herb Wesson, Eric Garcetti and Paul Koretz. He has also been endorsed by California State Senator Ted Lieu, State Assembly Speaker John A. Perez and State Assemblyman, Mike Feuer. His many other endorsements come from several local Chambers of Commerce, numerous labor organizations, environmental groups, along with community and business leaders. Congresswomen Janice Hahn, Karen Bass and Jane Harman have also endorsed him. Mike received his B.A. in American History from Harvard University. He has been a long-term resident of Venice and now lives in Mar Vista.
In endorsing Mike as his successor, Bill Rosendahl said: “on every issue that is important to our neighborhoods, Mike has been a leader. On police hiring, modernizing LAX, and building mass transit, Mike was there. When it came to improving our parks, balancing the budget, and housing the homeless, Mike was there. Mike Bonin has the heart, the smarts, and the guts to be the voice of this district on the City Council.”
The open house will take place at Maritza’s home in the Silver Strand on Wednesday, February 27 at 7pm. If you would like to attend, please leave a comment below and we will forward her address to you.
