Clarissa Cervantes, Angela Durrant, Marilee Karlsen and Nora Nicosia, co-chairs of the Silver Strand Art Group report that the tour of the Chen Gallery, a “hidden jewel” in Torrance, on April 4 was terrific. The Gallery is a private, non-profit institution displaying the collection of Dr. Tei Fu Chen. Dr. Chen has spent the last 25 years collecting over 1000 artifacts which illustrate 5000 years of Chinese history. The collection ranges from the Neolithic era to the Ming and Qing imperial palace collections. It includes furniture, jade, bronzes, snuff bottles, pottery and sculpture, all beautifully displayed. The group was led through the collection by a very knowledgeable docent (photography opportunities are limited)-
The group had a delicious lunch at Gonpachi, the contemporary Japanese restaurant at the new Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance, a short walk from the Gallery.
