Homeowners and Block Captains Penny Akashi, Cindy Carlin, Eileen Nugent, Ann Murtha Mason and Beth Holden-Garland hosted the first of the Silver Strand mini-Block parties on Sunday, May 5. About 70 residents (and 15 dogs) from Lighthouse and Ketch Malls and the northernmost end of Roma Court celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a delicious potluck lunch which included everything from empanadas to pizza. Friends of residents and some families from other Malls also joined in the festivities. Several guests dressed in outfits which made them look as if they’d just arrived from south of the border. Trees were decorated with colored streamers and hung with Mexican flags.
An additional attraction was the kid-friendly area set up on Ketch decorated with pinatas stuffed with goodies. There were many children present and it gave parents a chance to connect with each other.
Nora Nicosia, SSMHOA Board member and Chair of the Block Captain Committee pronounced the party a huge success and congratulated the hosts who made it so. Homeowners had a chance to meet and greet their neighbors, some of long-standing, some new arrivals to the community. The next mini-Block party (Reef/Quarterdeck) will be on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th on Quarterdeck Mall (see post of April 21, 2013 or Calendar of Events).
With thanks to Penny Akashi for all photographs, except above of Monty, in this post.
