The Getty Center
1200 Getty Center Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90049
Please join the SSAG on Tuesday, June 11, at 10:45 for an exciting visit to the Getty Center.
Description: Our tour will have two parts:
First, we will tour the OVERDRIVE exhibition, the center-piece of the Getty’s new Pacific Standard Time survey of modern architecture in Los Angeles from 1940 to 1990.
It will use drawings, photographs, models, films, animations, oral histories, and ephemera to illustrate the complex dimensions of L.A.’s rich and often underappreciated built environment, revealing this metropolis’s global impact.
“Overdrive’” is a richly layered collection of pretty much every corner of Los Angeles culture that architecture touched, influenced or was shaped by.”
For a preview of the exhibit, look at the uploaded videos at http://www.youtube.com/gettyresearch
Second, we have reserved a private, docent guide for the Getty’s beautiful Central Garden, designed by the renown artist Robert Irwin. to see it at its peak Spring flowering season. Irwin has described it as “a sculpture in the form of a garden aspiring to be art.”
Admission, Transportation and Parking:
Admission to the Getty is free; parking is $15.00.
We will gather at Quarterdeck and Roma at 10:45 am and will depart promptly at 11:00.
Lunch will be at the Getty cafeteria, where the food is excellent and you can select from a wide variety of choices.
