Annual Silver Strand Neighborhood Party 2015:
Jennifer Manoogian (ad-hoc Chair of the Annual Silver Strand Neighborhood Party) said that the Board has agreed to work with Peter and Ty Bergman, of Bergman Beach Properties for the third year in a row on the Annual Silver Strand Neighborhood Party because they have done such a superb job in the last two years. The party will take place on  Saturday Sept. 12, 2015. Details will be announced in the blog closer to the date. The Bergmans have a chosen a Las Vegas theme for this year and will provide games and prizes (but no money).  They will also have separate games for the kids. For live entertainment, they will present Las Vegas type of musical show. The Board recommended that the Bergmans bring back a psychic/fortune teller, which has always been very popular at the party.

Security: Patty Schnegg (Chair) reported that there have not been any recent security problems.

Landscaping Committee: Sandy Gooch (Chair)
Sandy passed out materials on water conservation: “Planting Seeds, Water for Farms – a briefing by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC)” and “What Are Water Rights?”
She also gave out copies of current instructions about when residents can water their gardens based on the LADWP’s “Know Your Watering Days.”  Street address ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Street addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Residents may run sprinklers with non-conserving nozzles for 8 minutes max per station; 15 minutes max for those with conserving nozzles.
All outdoor watering is prohibited from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. regardless of the watering day.  She also shared a book – “Sunset Western Garden book of Easy-Care Plantings, the Ultimate Guide to Low-Water Beds, Boarders and Containers.”

Block Captain Committee: Nora Nicosia (Chair) said that the Teen Club will be held in abeyance, but she is continuing to work on forming the new Silver Strand Film Club and information will be sent out shortly.
She commented   that the mini-Block parties, now in their third year, have been very successful in terms of residents “getting to know their neighbors.” So far, three parties have been scheduled for 2015:
1) May 3, Cinco de Mayo party on Ketch Mall for Roma Court, Ketch and Lighthouse Malls, noon to 4pm.
2) May 31, Happy Hour on Spinnaker Mall for Roma Court, Spinnaker and Topsail Malls 4 – 6pm.
3) July 19th, Bastille Day Celebration lunch

Silver Strand residents are welcome at all the parties, but please bring a dish to share and your own drinks

He also said that he and Dr. David Eisenman will soon complete a survey form that will be sent on line to homeowners.  More walkie-talkies were requested and the Board agreed, so that every Block Captain and co-Captain will have one.  This will be followed by a test session, to be coordinated with two Silver Strand homeowners with ham radios, to make sure that Block Captains can communicate with each other and the ham radio operators who in turn can contact the downtown site that handles severe emergencies.

Government Outreach Committee: Gary Garland (Chair)

Gary Garland reported that the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County are apparently on track to complete the auxiliary sewer line down Via Marina, despite the many safety, environmental and traffic issues brought up by residents and lessees in public hearings regarding this project. [Update: Richard Lysle has filed an appeal with the City of Los Angeles on this project: see post of May 1, 2015].

  1. Angela Durrant says:

Regarding the watering I think instructions should be sent to homeowners as not all get the blog. Also when I spoke to Ray before, as I had noticed things, he said their instructions came from homeowners and they were afraid to lose the business.

    Thanks, Angela

  2. Lynne Shapiro says:

Request to Sandy Gooch: please restore our lovely and valuable view of the ocean and the beach with a GOOD trimming of the TOPS of the trees on Topsail Mall.

Thank you, Your friends and neighbors in the condos of Via Dolce/Bora Bora.
